To apply for academic credit for your internship, please submit a request through Handshake鈥檚 Experiences platform by following the instructions below.
If we approve your internship for credit, we will register you for CDCI 395, the online asynchronous class that you must take at the same time you are completing your internship in order to receive credit. The internship course has a syllabus with weekly assignments and will include an A-F grade.
In order to apply for internship credit through Handshake Experiences, be prepared
with the following information before beginning your submission:
- Employer/organization name, website address, and mailing address
- Internship position title
- Department where you are interning
- Description of the internship as stated by your employer
- Start and end dates of the internship
- Internship supervisor name, job title, email address, and phone number
- Total number of hours you will complete at the internship this semester
- Number of credits you are requesting for the internship
1. Log into your account (if you need assistance, contact hirebing@binghamton.edu).
2. From the menu on the left, select 鈥淐areer center.鈥
3. Select 鈥淓xperiences.鈥
4. Select 鈥淪ubmit an Experience.鈥
5. Under Details, select the appropriate Experience template and term for the semester you are interning. Example: 鈥2026/Spring - CDCI 395 - Credit-Bearing Internship Program鈥 and 鈥淐DCI 395 - Spring 2026鈥 for internships occurring in the spring of 2026.
6. Complete the Organization, Experience, and Reviewer Contact Information sections. (You will need to select the autofill suggestions when they appear in order for the boxes to fill in.)
- Organization: Indicate the name of the organization where you are interning.
- Experience: Indicate the title of your internship, the department, and the start and end dates
of your internship.
- Add experience to profile? Please check the box to have the Experience added to your profile. (This allows you to showcase your professional growth and helps the university track student participation.)
- Reviewer contact information: This will be your internship supervisor鈥檚 contact information.
- Email address: Provide the email address of your internship supervisor. If asked, provide the name, title, and phone number of your supervisor.
7. Answer all of the questions in the General section.
8. Submit an Experience (lower right) - Click the green button when you are ready.
- You will receive an email confirming that your Experience request has been received and is pending approval. We will review your submission, and if your internship meets the requirements for credit, we will send an agreement to your supervisor and verify your internship details with them.
- You will also receive an email once the Experience has been approved (or declined).
- If your Experience is approved for academic credit, we will register you for CDCI 395, the internship course, and send you a confirmation email. Please allow up to 2 weeks for the approval and registration process.
You can check the status of your Experience request at any time by following these steps:
- Log into Handshake.
- Select 鈥淐areer Center鈥 > 鈥淓xperiences.鈥
- Select 鈥淓xperiences鈥 at the top left.
- You will be able to see all of your experiences with the status listed in the upper-right corner, and you have the option to 鈥淰iew Details.鈥
