PALs Spotlight: Danielle Dattler ‘24

What were some of your favorite parts about going to SOPPS?
I had so many opportunities to grow through individual and group tutoring. I was also able to find clubs that were unique to my interests: Student Government, Women in Healthcare, Pediatric Pharmacy Association, and a student ambassador. I was also the captain on a Club Ultimate Frisbee team!
Do you have any advice for current students?
Flashcards were my best friend!
How have your perceptions of the pharmacy field changed since deciding to become a pharmacist?
There are so many things you learn for an exam that turn out to be clinically less important than you expect, and vice versa - you are constantly learning so much new vital information in the field that you may not have realized was as relevant when you were learning in class.
Is there anyone at SOPPS you would like to thank?
Amanda & JJ in Student Affairs made everything flow so smoothly and were always there to direct you to a solution. Dr. McCall was an amazing professor who I am so glad I had as my advisor for a seamless capstone experience.
Where are you working now?
Syracuse VA Medical Center as an Inpatient/Outpatient Pharmacist
What do you like to do in your free time?
Anything outdoors. Big into hiking, kayaking/canoeing/paddleboarding, and biking while camping. I play club ultimate frisbee over the summer and leagues in the off-season. Love love love spending time with friends, family, and my pup <3
How do you (or would you like to) stay involved at SOPPS?
I am excited to be joining PALs to hopefully assist in more engagement for our alumni. I also LOVE talking with students and discussing SOPPS/pharmacy pathways.
What would be your dream job (if you’re not already doing it)?
I don’t know! And that is totally ok - even 2 years in I am not 100% sure what I want to do for the rest of my career but I’m loving my new position at the Syracuse VA.
