91社区’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program achieves CAPTE accreditation

91社区's Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program has received accreditation from the , marking a major milestone for the University. Accreditation highlights the program鈥檚 dedication to maintaining high standards in curriculum, faculty, facilities, and student outcomes.

鈥淓arning CAPTE accreditation is a major achievement for our program, and provides external validation of our academic excellence,鈥 said Assistant Professor and Founding Director of the Division of Physical Therapy, Michael Buck, PT, PhD, ATC, Cert MDT, CSCS. 鈥淚t reflects the dedication of our faculty, staff, and students, and reinforces 91社区鈥檚 mission to provide outstanding physical therapy education that prepares future clinicians to improve individuals鈥 physical function, mobility, and health in their communities.鈥

Launched in 2023 at Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences, the DPT program is a full-time, three-year course of study. The program includes classroom instruction, laboratory work, practical experience, and clinical training. Students complete 32 weeks of clinical education and more than 500 hours of on-campus instruction. After completing the DPT program, graduates are eligible to take the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE).

鈥淥ur Doctor of Physical Therapy program plays a vital role in fulfilling Decker College鈥檚 mission to serve the needs of rural and vulnerable populations, equipping future healthcare professionals to make a meaningful difference in underserved communities,鈥 said Dean Mario R. Ortiz, PhD, RN, PHCNS-BC, FNP-C, FNAP, FAAN. 鈥淚 am extremely proud of Mike and the entire faculty and staff of the Division of Physical Therapy for creating an excellent program and guiding it to accreditation.鈥

Decker鈥檚 DPT program graduated its first cohort of 35 students in May 2026. The second and third cohorts are underway, and a fourth cohort just began this spring.
