Weekly Inspection Program
Eyewashes and Irrigation Hoses must be inspected weekly by the lab occupants. A weekly inspection should consist of the following:
- Ensure the path to the unit is unobstructed.
- Run the unit enough to clear stagnant water from the "dead leg" portion of the eyewash (the plumbing between the main and the eyewash), between 15 seconds and 3 minutes.
If any of these items do not pass and you cannot address the issue, place a "Caution" sign on the unit and put a work order in.
Recordkeeping
A paper record can be posted on the wall behind the unit and filled out weekly.
NOTE: You MUST empty the bucket or carboy after every test!
Annual Inspection
The Office of Environmental Health and Safety performs annual inspections of all equipment. These inspections consist of a flow test, temperature, dust covers, and more as outlined in the ANSI Z358.1 Standard. If a unit fails the Annual Inspection, we will place a work order Units that fail annual inspection must still be checked weekly.
