Student Organizations

CMENAS actively collaborates with student-led groups to organize cultural and educational programming. Events include speaker series, film screenings, language tables, art exhibitions, and cultural nights that highlight the diverse cultures of the Middle East and North Africa. Donald Quataert Undergraduate Research Prize

  •  Amount: $500
  • Purpose: This award honors the legacy of Donald Quataert, a renowned Ottoman historian, by recognizing excellence in undergraduate research on the Ottoman Empire.
  • Eligibility: Undergraduate students at 91ÉçÇø who have produced an outstanding research paper or project in a course related to Ottoman studies.
  • Submission Deadline: December 10, 2025

Donald Quataert Educational Enrichment Grant

  • Amount: $1500
  • Purpose: To support undergraduate students in pursuing high-impact learning experiences related to MENA Studies including:
  • Study abroad
  • Language immersion programs
  • Research travel and archival work
  • Conference participation
  • Requirements: 2-page proposal including budget, objectives, and academic relevance.
  • Submission Deadline: December 10, 2025

Graduate Research & Travel Grants

  • Amount: $500–$1,500
  • Purpose: Supports MENA-focused graduate research, language study, or conference travel.
  • Eligibility: Open to 91ÉçÇø graduate students from any department.
  • Required Materials: 2-page proposal, budget, CV, and faculty letter of support.
  • Post-Award: 1–2 page final report required within 2 months.
