You must submit a request for accommodations letters every semester.
Students will receive notification at the beginning of each semester when they can request accommodations for the current semester. Typically, notification occurs the week prior to the first day of classes. SSD strongly encourages students to submit semester requests as soon as possible. Once your instructors receive your academic accommodation letter you will need to discuss the implementation of your accommodations in a timely manner with your professors. If you do not discuss how your accommodations are implemented, your professors will assume you have chosen not to use any accommodations at this time.
Accommodations are not retroactive and may need time to be implemented. Authorized accommodations may result in a fundamental alteration of the essential elements of a course and therefore may not be reasonable. Fundamental alterations are determined by a collaboration between instructors and SSD.

Reminders for after you submit your request
Your Semester Request will come to our office for approval. Requests can take up to two business days to process. Once processed, your accommodation letter will be emailed to you, and your professors will be notified by email.
If you register for a course AFTER submitting your semester request, you will need to submit a new request to access accommodations for the newly added course. You may also need to submit a new request for courses that start in the second half of the semester.
The most important step and last step is to follow up with your professors on how your accommodation(s) will be implemented. It is essential to do this at the beginning of every semester!
